Instagram Inspiration

Those of you that follow me on Instagram will know I’ve been been really inspired by my fellow sewcialists of late. I know we say it all the time, but I love our community and in the past year I have discovered indie patterns and attempted makes I never would have without seeing other people’s versions first. So I thought I’d dedicate a blog post to three Instagrammers who have provided me with inspiration over the past year.

Like Sew Amazing

I like, LOVE Like Sew Amazing. I love Sarah’s style and her makes, and also the pictures of her cat (I need to make her cat pyjamas, cause they are AMAZING).

I have several makes that were inspired by Sarah and several patterns in my stash I am yet to make, but it all started with the Seamwork Catarina Dress. I loved the style. It is so effortless and elegant, and Sarah’s versions are to die for. So, last summer, I made my own Catarina out some amazing fabric from Sew Over it.

Catarina is a dress I never would have made without seeing Sarah’s version – a) because I’m still a (relative) newbie and b) I wouldn’t have fallen in love with the pattern image. One of the great things about the sewcialist community on Instagram is that you get to see different versions on different body shapes and can make a more informed decision about whether a pattern is for you.

MLEMaust

Next up with have the lovely Emily Maust. I found Emily’s Instagram page through Sew Over It when shared her African Wax Print Lola coat last year. I knew immediately I needed one in my life.

When I managed to pick up some African Wax Print at Great British Sewing Bee Live from Urbanstax (as it is difficult to find in rural Devon!) I was delighted. Don’t get me wrong, the fabric and colours I chose are quite a statement – but I love it. With jeans and a cami or a pencil skirt and a shirt, my Wax Print Lola brightens up any outfit and any day. Urbanstax even asked me to blog about my make for their website, which I was thrilled by.

I’ll definitely be make more Lola’s – and I have some amazing fabric in my stash from Urbanstax to make a Sew Over It Poppy Jumpsuit soon…

Button and Pip

Finally, we have Adelle. She is a sweetheart who gracefully puts up with my spam tagging of her on my Instagram page and has an enviable collection of True Bias Ogden Camis.

Ogden is again a pattern I wouldn’t necessarily have found on my own, and because I don’t make wardrobe staples much I probably wouldn’t have considered it. But Adelle’s collection, and the fact that you can make it out of so little fabric, sold me. I always overbuy my fabric so I can pattern match if I need or want to, so I often have sizeable chunks left over. After making my first Ogden in an hour, I was hooked. I’m now building a collection that doesn’t quite rival Adele’s…yet!

So there you have it, three sewcialists who give me instagram inspiration! And I can assure you, there are many, many, more…
